Wiki Health Report

Rewritten 2026-11-02 after the corpus audit of 1–2 November 2026.

The earliest pages of this wiki were written in April and May 2026 by an older language model. In November 2026 every page was reread and checked: each note it cites, each fact against a primary source, each claim against the other pages. The audit was run by twelve readers working in parallel on groups of related pages, coordinated through one list of decisions so that pages owned by different readers came out agreeing. Primary sources were the raw notes, the ingested texts, the harm.work sitemap and live site, the Club Internet database, the Entfaltung project files and, for facts about other people, Wikipedia. A fact repeated on three pages counted as unverified until one of them led back to a source.

What the audit found

About 1,160 factual claims with relevance beyond their own page were checked; a quarter were wrong. The damage came in five kinds.

Found texts read as the artist's words. Many numbered notes are passages by other writers, collected, cut, and sometimes recast in the first person. That is how the archive works, but the early pages quoted them as van den Dorpel's own formulations. They are now attributed:

• 793 adapts Bernard Williams's Morality (1972), where Williams quotes D. H. Lawrence's "find your deepest impulse, and follow that"; the note turns Williams's "this sort of outlook" into "my sort of outlook".
• 805 copies N. Katherine Hayles on flickering signifiers, with one intimate sentence spliced in.
• 822 copies Derrida's Archive Fever; the wiki had cited the image-only 837 for it.
• 856 is MoMA's label on Arp's chance collage (the collage itself is 821).
• 1266 is Leland de la Durantaye's summary of Agamben's profane order, and it says the old distinctions are neutralised, not destroyed.
• 609 draws on David Pye's workmanship of risk and certainty.
• Several lines of Strategies (3004) are verbatim Eric Raymond.

Circular sourcing. Pages written by the language model were cited as evidence for claims about the practice. Propositions 5.4, "religious in shape, not in content", was a wiki formula of May 2026 that later pages quoted back as if he had said it. The apophatic reading now rests on the one primary source for it, the artist's remark of November 2026 that he knows what he wants mostly by what he doesn't want, "a bit like apophatic theology" (see Does a Work Still Need to Be New?).

Invented or garbled facts, copied between pages. Among the corrections:

• Event Listeners is 2015, a macOS screensaver in an edition of 100; the MAK bought twenty editions in April 2015, before left gallery existed.
• IOU (November 2015) is therefore not the earliest blockchain provenance claim.
• left gallery closed in March 2022.
• Cloud Writings was his first solo show at Takuro Someya Contemporary Art, not his first showing in Japan.
• The AFK sculpture park was photographed.
• Loomer was at Young Projects, West Hollywood.
• No source records Apple II works by Herbert W. Franke at Apple in Munich; Blockade is the eighth Stained Unravel token, a Museum Proof.
• Quantizer uses eleven dithering methods (Burkes is the most common), and its rendering is not on-chain.
• Manfred Mohr has worked in colour since 1998, and with computers since 1969.
• Cartesian Genetic Programming was co-developed by Julian F. Miller and Peter Thomson for circuit design from 1997. Its graphs have no cycles, so it neither solves nor builds in a halt to the halting problem.
• Angles Morts was a two-person show with Vera Molnár; the four women in its text are artists he has researched since 2019, not precursors.
• The Assemblages are open spheres of riveted strips, not sealed polyhedra, and no source connects them to object-oriented ontology.

Speculation in the wiki's own voice. Readings no source supports were cut or marked as the wiki's. The early pages also cast the practice as a counter to AI, though Stained Unravel, Interruptions and Entfaltung were programmed with a language model. Novelty claims ("first", "the move none of them made") were removed unless a source makes them, in which case they are attributed: the MAK purchase as "the first museum purchase of a tokenised artwork" is now the MAK's and Tina Rivers Ryan's claim, not the wiki's.

Accretion. Ingests had appended sections that restated other pages. The corpus is now about 130,000 words, down from 177,000, with no loss of sourced content.

Where contradictions were resolved

Where two pages carried claims that could not both be true, an Agent's reading now proposes the concept that keeps what each got right:

Canonical homes

Each topic now has one page that carries the full argument; other pages give a sentence and a link.

Sources added and repaired

• Ingested: the Senescenence press release (from the Internet Archive; the gallery page is gone), Brian Droitcour's Beautiful Rules (Outland, 2025), and the April 2026 draft text on Stained Unravel, which the wiki had quoted since April without keeping. Its sentences reappear in "Magicians Conceal, Artists Reveal" and in Margit Rosen's Vectors text, so the three are one source on those points, not three.
• Replaced: the Markov's Dream about text, which had been stored as a paraphrase, now holds the published text.
• Frontmatter added or corrected on Art vs. Magic (an undated text), Tokenizing Sustainability, the Loomer and Strategies sources (note IDs after the 2000→3000 renumbering), and the abstracts of the Spike surf-club, Just-in-Time and Krauss sources.
• Dead Wikipedia links: 23 found and fixed. Every Wikipedia link in the wiki and the ingested sources now resolves.

Images

Before the audit, 53 images were used on more than one page, eight of them under two different filenames. Each now has one keeper page. The other pages show another view of the same work or a different work, taken from the harm.work image archive, the raw-note media or new captures of the live works; 63 new images were added. No two public wiki pages now share an image; a few summaries still show the images of the source text they summarise. Where no alternative of at least 960 px existed, the figure was dropped rather than reused. Captions were checked against what is in the frame, and several that named the wrong work or the wrong view were rewritten.

Works

• Assemblage (everything vs. anything): its size, 120×100×110 cm in the notes or 110×110 cm in the former harm.work entry. (The material is PET-G; the work is to be restored on harm.work.)
• Which Franke works were shown at Apple in Munich?
• Death Imitates Language: do the names come from a password list, and is the title a nod to Wilde? Did the planned 23,000-token release happen?
• Vesper and Metaballs ⁱⁱ: their sizes differ between harm.work pages.

Statements

• Does he hold the Strategies line "The past haunts the present, but equally important so does the future" as his own conviction?

Answered by the artist (November 2026)

• "Magicians Conceal, Artists Reveal": he attributes it to Frans Oosterhof, his teacher and mentor at art school.
• Assemblage (everything vs. anything) is PET-G.
• Codec Breeze is 2008 (harm.work gives 2009).
• The missing Stained Unravel text was the Google Doc "Stained Unravel (draft)" in his files; it is now ingested and its quotations checked.
• Quantizer is not stored on-chain: its page fetches each block hash from an online API, a "crypto-dependent" work.
• Propositions stays signed in his name. Future Directions is retired: hidden from the index and unlinked, kept for the record.

Maintenance principles

1. Trace every fact to a primary source. Other wiki pages are not sources, and a claim repeated across pages is no more verified than a claim made once.
2. Check a note's author before quoting it as the artist's. Search a distinctive phrase. If the note is a found text, name its author and say what the note does to it.
3. Pages written by the language model are not evidence. Cite the notes, his published texts and interviews, or his own words from conversation, attributed as "the artist" with month and year.
4. One canonical home per topic, pointers elsewhere. A new ingest sharpens the home page; it does not add a restatement to five others.
5. One image per page. Before adding an image, compare its checksum against public/images: the same picture under a second name is still a duplicate. Look at it before captioning it.
6. Check links mechanically. node scripts/check-images.js for images, node tmp/corpus-lint.js for wikilinks, frontmatter and the index, and a batched Wikipedia API query for external links.
