Wiki Health Report
Full read of all wiki pages and ingested sources. 2026-04-12 (third pass).
Fixed since previous lint (2026-04-12, second pass)
- Markov's Dream link error — works-overview.md figure now links to
https://harm.work/nft/markovs-dreamwith updated caption (32 animated coloured nested tokens) - stained-unravel.png duplicate — process-legibility.md now uses
senescenence-stitched-gaze.jpg(Stitched Gaze, 2026); senescenence.md retains the original stained-unravel.png hero - Sculpture_02.jpg duplicate — figure removed from assemblage-identity.md; Loin de moi image remains only in semiotic-square.md (primary source for note 912); no second image available on harm.work
Fixed since previous lint (2026-04-11)
These were flagged in earlier reports and are now resolved:
- recursion.md — previously "NO PAGE"; page now exists and is well-linked
- evolutionary-logic.md — previously "NO PAGE"; page now exists with CGP, fitness functions, non-coding genes, algorithmic archaeology
- Stained Unravel / Senescenence relationship — senescenence.md and process-legibility.md now cross-reference each other correctly
- "Sharpest formulation yet" stale — senescenence.md now notes it was "superseded in the Stained Unravel text by 'tested, not executed'"
- AI disambiguation — subconscious-computation.md See also section now distinguishes the two senses of AI with a cross-reference to process-legibility.md
- Most cross-link gaps — the table from the previous report is largely addressed
1. Errors and contradictions
1a. Factual error — thermopaper description in works-overview.md
File: wiki/works-overview.md, line ~40
"Thermopaper is a photosensitive material — its surface responds to heat and light, producing marks not through pigment but through chemical change."
This is wrong. Thermopaper (thermal paper) is thermosensitive, not photosensitive — it responds to heat, not light. Photosensitive paper is a different material (used in darkroom photography). The IOU summary page (written later) correctly says "thermosensitive paper... darkens wherever heat is applied."
Fix: Replace "Thermopaper is a photosensitive material — its surface responds to heat and light" with "Thermopaper is a thermosensitive material — its surface responds to heat."
1b. Link error — Markov's Dream linked to Markov's Window URL in works-overview.md
File: wiki/works-overview.md, line ~21–24
The figure block labels the image as Markov's Dream (2022) but the href points to https://harm.work/work/markovs-window (Markov's Window, 2004). These are two distinct works; Markov's Dream should link to its own harm.work page.
Fix: Either (a) update the caption and alt text to "Markov's Window (2004)" to match the link, or (b) find the correct URL for Markov's Dream and update the href. The image file is images/markovs-dream.png, which suggests the image is of Markov's Dream — so option (b) is likely correct.
1c. Unverified timeline claim in iou-exhibition.md
File: wiki/summaries/iou-exhibition.md, section "The blockchain provenance"
"This is 2015. The claim... is made at the earliest moment of van den Dorpel's blockchain engagement, before ascribe.io, before Event Listeners."
This is unverified and may be wrong. The tokenising-sustainability source states: "I minted my first NFTs in 2015 with the help of the now defunct ascribe.io" — placing Event Listeners (also 2015, via ascribe.io) as the first blockchain minting. The IOU works (2014–2015) also had blockchain provenance in 2015, but whether this predated Event Listeners or used the same ascribe.io mechanism is not established by the sources.
Fix: Remove "before ascribe.io, before Event Listeners" — replace with "in 2015, at the period of van den Dorpel's earliest blockchain engagement." Optionally add a note that whether IOU's blockchain provenance predated Event Listeners or used the same ascribe.io mechanism is unclear from available sources.
1d. Duplicate image: stained-unravel.png
Files: wiki/senescenence.md (hero image) and wiki/process-legibility.md (figure)
Both use images/stained-unravel.png. CLAUDE.md instructs: "Try to not use the same image twice anywhere in the wiki." The Stained Unravel series should have additional token images available.
Fix: In process-legibility.md, replace the stained-unravel.png figure with a different token from the Stained Unravel series (e.g., senescenence-sealed-solids.jpg which is already used in the art-vs-magic summary, or a fresh download of another token). Check sources/images/ for available Stained Unravel assets.
1e. Duplicate image: Sculpture_02.jpg (Loin de moi)
Files: wiki/semiotic-square.md and wiki/assemblage-identity.md
Both use media/Sculpture_02.jpg for the same Loin de moi sculpture figure. One of the two figures should be replaced with a different image of the work, or removed.
Fix: Since semiotic-square.md discusses Loin de moi primarily as a positional example on the square, and assemblage-identity.md discusses it as deferred identity, keep the figure in whichever page benefits most. Consider removing the figure from one page or finding a second image of the work.
1f. Stale frontmatter date — senescenence.md
File: wiki/senescenence.md, frontmatter: updated: 2026-04-11
Three sections were added in the 2026-04-12 session: the grid family section (Albers → Anni → Stained Unravel), the heraldic imagery extension, and the three-tier mediation spectrum correction. The date should be 2026-04-12.
Fix: Change updated: 2026-04-11 to updated: 2026-04-12.
1g. Phantom source citation — process-legibility.md
File: wiki/process-legibility.md, frontmatter: sources: [992, 709, 609, 793, 876]
Note 876 (the recursion / radical autonomy note) appears in the frontmatter but is not cited anywhere in the body of the page. The page discusses "thirty years of practice," the loom, and the stop-condition problem, but never draws on 876 directly.
Fix: Either (a) add a sentence connecting 876's self-definition/radical-autonomy argument to the page's "against seamlessness" position (the work that cannot refer outside itself is the work that cannot conceal itself — a productive connection), or (b) remove 876 from the frontmatter sources list.
1h. Unverified work in Our Inner Child works table
File: wiki/summaries/our-inner-child.md, works table
Recursive Intervention (2023) appears in the works table with the note "Site-specific; mirroring inflatable reflecting the exhibition space." The Our Inner Child source text does not mention this work. The connection is inferred from the fact that the summary references it ("the most literal instantiation of mise en abyme in the exhibition"), but it's unclear whether Recursive Intervention was actually shown at Upstream Gallery Amsterdam in the Our Inner Child exhibition or at a separate venue.
Fix: Verify against the harm.work sitemap whether Recursive Intervention (2023) was shown at Our Inner Child. If not, remove it from the works table and note it separately as a contemporaneous work from the same period. The harm.work sitemap entry for Recursive Intervention would list its exhibitions.
2. Orphan pages
Pages with no inbound links from concept pages (only indexed in index.md):
2a. wiki/summaries/iou-exhibition.md — newly created, unlinked
The IOU summary has no links pointing to it from any concept page. Five concept pages discuss themes directly addressed in IOU:
| Concept page | Theme from IOU | Suggested addition |
|---|---|---|
wiki/mediation-archive.md | "Ghostly transaction" as archival claim; thermopaper as ephemeral substrate whose blockchain record survives | Add to the Immutability ≠ Accessibility section as the earliest instance of the tension — the works' physical substrate fades while the blockchain record is "supposedly perpetual" |
wiki/randomness-pattern.md | Thermal diffusion as workmanship of uncertainty; heat as form-generator | Add brief mention in the "workmanship of uncertainty" section |
wiki/process-legibility.md | "Barely touched their surface" — minimal contact as process legibility limit | Could be a footnote in the "against seamlessness" context |
wiki/assemblage-identity.md | Work identity constituted by the assemblage of cultural references the text articulates | Brief mention |
wiki/impulse-risk-method.md | The daisy-chain text as associative method — following connections from Quake to thermopaper | Could illustrate the "navigation as method" formulation |
Priority fix: Add a "See also" or inline reference from mediation-archive.md to IOU (2015) — this is the most thematically tight connection (earliest blockchain provenance claim, thermopaper ephemerality vs. "supposedly perpetual" blockchain).
2b. wiki/lint-report.md — not in index.md
Flagged in the previous lint; still not indexed. The index's Reference section should include it, or a policy decision should be made to exclude meta/operational files from the index.
Fix: Add to wiki/index.md under a "## Meta" or "## Reference" section: - Wiki Health Report — active issues, fixed items, priority queue
3. Concepts mentioned repeatedly with no dedicated page
3a. The Four Master Tropes — NO PAGE (persistent)
Flagged in CLAUDE.md's initial terrain as core (→ 662, 690, 1005). None of the three notes have been read. No wiki page exists. The Four Master Tropes (metaphor, metonymy, synecdoche, irony — from Vico/Burke) are a rhetorical/philosophical framework potentially underlying the structural logic of the practice.
Fix: Read notes 662, 690, 1005 and create wiki/four-master-tropes.md. This has been deferred across multiple sessions — it is the largest unresolved structural gap in the wiki.
3b. Sacred geometry — concept distributed, no page
The phrase "sacred geometry" or its adjacent concepts (mandala, stained glass, heraldic imagery, loom-as-binary-logic) appear in:
wiki/senescenence.md— full section "Sacred geometry: structure as meaning-carrier"wiki/summaries/cloud-writings-exhibition.md— heraldic imagery; Stairs and Crosseswiki/summaries/struggle-for-pleasure.md— the mandala analogy: "simple operations → transcendental complexity"wiki/summaries/angles-morts-exhibition.md— Albers' loom geometry as sacred geometry precursorwiki/summaries/art-vs-magic.md— Albers / Conceptualism arc
The concept is coherent: rule-based geometric systems (loom, mandala, stained glass, heraldry) in which local decisions accumulate into forms that exceed their construction and carry symbolic meaning. This is a through-line connecting the historical precursors to the cellular automaton.
Fix: Either (a) create wiki/sacred-geometry.md as a concept page synthesizing these appearances, or (b) promote the "sacred geometry" section from senescenence.md into a standalone concept page and link from all relevant pages.
3c. The plotter as philosophical medium — no page
The plotter appears prominently in:
wiki/summaries/cloud-writings-exhibition.md— "the plotter as philosophical necessity": slow mechanical movement as duration; unique, unrepeatable trace; vector vs. rasterwiki/summaries/angles-morts-exhibition.md— plotter as drawing machine; Embroidery's deliberate pen-down errorwiki/process-legibility.md— leaky abstraction; plotter line as implementation-made-visiblewiki/senescenence.md— three mark-making modes (hand, brush-plotter, fineliner-plotter)
The plotter is philosophically distinct from a printer and from the hand: it draws in time, leaves a unique trace, and its path is the content. This is a significant thematic thread without a home concept page.
Fix: Add a "The plotter" section to wiki/process-legibility.md (where the plotter's "leaky abstraction" is already discussed), or create a stub wiki/plotter.md if the concept warrants independent treatment.
3d. Interval space — introduced but undeveloped
File: wiki/about.md
"[Dissociations]... is a successive presentation of finite objects in favor of tracking an interval space, where the interrelationships between ideas and forms become the focus rather than the works themselves."
This is the New Museum's description of Dissociations (2013). "Interval space" is a precise and powerful term — the subject of the project is what lies between elements, not the elements themselves. It is mentioned only in about.md and never picked up in any concept page.
The concept connects to: assemblage-identity.md (identity as relational), randomness-pattern.md (pattern as the space between signals), semiotic-square.md (the negations as the interesting positions), and subconscious-computation.md (the algorithm revealing what was between the decisions).
Fix: Add a subsection to wiki/assemblage-identity.md (or to a general synthesis page) developing "interval space" as a structural concept and linking to About.
3e. Markov's memorylessness / melancholia — dispersed, not synthesized
The Markov chain's philosophical properties (memorylessness, the melancholia embedded in a system that cannot remember what it has lost) are discussed in wiki/protocol-taste-systems.md (Markov question section) and referenced in wiki/works-overview.md. The concept carries significant philosophical weight — it is precisely the formal opposite of the accumulative, historically-constituted assemblage identity. A system that can only reference its immediate prior state is the antipode of the archival/relational identity.
Fix: Either add a subsection to wiki/assemblage-identity.md contrasting Markov memorylessness with assemblage's constitutive history, or expand the Markov section in protocol-taste-systems.md with explicit cross-references to assemblage-identity and mediation-archive.
4. Potentially stale claims
4a. Death Imitates Language on-chain plan
File: wiki/summaries/zora-zine-subdued-iconoclasm.md, section 9
"The plan in 2021: bring [Death Imitates Language] back fully on-chain, 23,000 tokens."
This was an announced intention in 2021. Current status (2026) is unknown. The plan may have been executed, modified, or abandoned. The ZORA ZINE interview postdates the plan announcement but the plan's outcome is not recorded anywhere in the wiki.
Fix: Flag as "status unknown as of 2026" or verify against harm.work whether a Death Imitates Language on-chain release occurred.
4b. Left gallery's current operational status
Files: wiki/summaries/tokenising-sustainability.md, wiki/protocol-taste-systems.md
Left gallery's 2020 rebuild is described (Ethereum integration dropped due to gas costs). The current (2026) status of left gallery — whether it is still operational, whether any blockchain integration has been restored post-Merge — is not addressed. The Ethereum Merge (September 2022) reduced gas costs significantly; it's possible that left gallery's "blockchain soul" was partially restored.
Fix: If left gallery's current status is known, add a brief note in tokenising-sustainability.md. If unknown, add a "Status as of 2026 unverified" caveat.
4c. Quantizer described as 2025 work
File: wiki/protocol-taste-systems.md
Quantizer is described as (2025). Since the current date is 2026-04-12 this is technically not stale, but Quantizer's ongoing status (whether it "lives as a single web page that can be collected but not fixed" is still its current state) has not been verified against current harm.work data.
This is lower priority — Quantizer is recent and likely current.
5. Missing inbound links to existing pages
These pages exist and are good but lack inbound links from specific places where they are directly relevant:
| Missing link | In file | Context |
|---|---|---|
IOU (2015) | wiki/mediation-archive.md | Earliest blockchain provenance claim; thermopaper ephemerality vs. blockchain |
