How to Display Your NFT
A simple guide for collectors
Thank you for collecting my work. This page explains how a screen-based piece is actually shown once it is yours. If you have not yet received the token itself, start with How to Receive Your NFT, which covers wallets and the transfer.
A screen-based work can be shown in many ways. Here Entfaltung is projected straight onto a gallery wall by a short-throw projector standing on a plinth below it, as it was in Lohaus Gallery's summer show in 2026. The rest of this page explains the options open to you at home.
What you own is the artwork, not the hardware
The work you bought exists as an NFT, a token on the blockchain that proves your ownership. The artwork is the running program. It is independent of the hardware you display it on. The same piece can run:
- on your computer, in a web browser,
- on your phone, in a web browser,
- on a dedicated screen installed permanently in your home,
- or through a projector, cast onto a wall.
You are free to move between these over time. Showing the work on your laptop today does not stop you from installing it on a wall-mounted screen later. The token stays the same; only the way you choose to view it changes.
Common ways to display the work
There is no single correct setup. These are the ones I use and recommend most often.
A dedicated screen
Many collectors install the work on a monitor kept permanently in place, like a framed piece. The screen can be mounted on the wall or stood on the floor: in this view of Angles Morts, Pression des pairs runs on a portrait monitor leaning against the far wall, its colours reflected in the polished floor, with framed plotter drawings on the walls around it. For works that are taller than they are wide, I often set the monitor upright, in portrait orientation. The screen simply displays whatever the computer behind it is running.
Many of my NFT-based works have a square aspect ratio. For those I often use a 1920×1920 pixel EIZO monitor, which is square and matches the shape of the work exactly, with no black bars on any side. In the view above, five such monitors hang in a row; the small computer that runs each piece is mounted behind the screen, out of sight, so only the artwork is visible on the wall. This is a recommendation, not a requirement: any screen with the right proportions will do.
A projection
Instead of a screen, the work can be projected directly onto a wall, as with Entfaltung in the lead image. A computer plays the live computation through a short-throw projector, at whatever scale the room allows. Projection suits large spaces and works that benefit from being seen at architectural size.
A computer is always needed
Whichever display you choose, screen or projector, a computer is always required to run the artwork. The screen only shows the image; the computer does the work.
The artwork is a program that starts automatically when the computer is switched on, and keeps running on its own. There is nothing to click, launch, or configure day to day: you turn the machine on, and the piece appears.
For permanent installations I prepare a small, customised computer for this single purpose, usually running Linux. It is set up so that the correct work loads on start-up and runs reliably for long periods without attention.
What the purchase includes
The price of the NFT covers the artwork only. It does not include the screen, the projector, or the computer that runs it. These are hardware you provide, and you are free to source them yourself.
That said, I and the gallery are glad to advise on hardware. If you tell us how and where you want to show the work, we can recommend a suitable screen or projector, the right computer, and how to set it up, or arrange the whole installation for you.
Optional maintenance service
If you would like it, we can also draw up a service contract. This can state that, for an agreed number of years after you buy the work together with its hardware, we will come to your home to carry out maintenance, for example if the computer, screen, or projector fails, or the setup needs updating. This keeps the work running as intended over the long term.
A service contract is entirely optional and is arranged separately from the sale of the NFT.
Questions
If anything here is unclear, or you would like help planning how to show the work, please reach out to the gallery or to me directly. We are happy to help you find the setup that fits your space.
